Reed Lath Interior Wall Systems

Reed lath is a manufactured product composed of small diameter bamboo pieces wired together into "mats" which can be used as an alternative to drywall on interior partition walls. Reed lath is supplied in rolls bound by high strength galvanized wire and is attached to framing members. After being properly prepared, they are then plastered in multiple coats with a gypsum or earthen plaster.

Reed lath is suitable for internal use as a base for plastering on walls and ceilings. Reed lath is particularly suitable for use with lime, clay, or gypsum plasters in building restoration and new-build. Reed lath wall systems are comparable or less expensive in cost to drywall, require less preparation for plastering, and are a renewable material. Reed lath also has the ability to mount easily on curved or irregular surfaces, enabling abstract forms to be finished more easily.
After the application of a thick basecoat of gypsum plaster, reed lath walls achieve equal fire resistance and protection to drywall.
